The Fraternity President's Prey
The air in the Sigma Alpha Rho chapter house always hummed with a potent blend of cheap beer, ambition, and something far more primal. Tonight, however, the air crackled with a specific, charged energy directed solely at me. I was Olivia Vance, a junior in the journalism program, and tonight, I was the guest of honor. Or, more accurately, the intended prey.
The invitation had been unexpected, a gilded card delivered by a nervous pledge. “President’s Private Mixer.” President. That meant Liam Sterling. Sterling. Even his name was synonymous with power and privilege at Crestwood University. He was the golden boy, the captain of the lacrosse team, the heir to a fortune, and the undisputed king of this campus. And I, Olivia Vance, a scholarship student with a penchant for sniffing out a good story, had always been just outside his orbit. Until now.
I adjusted the strap of my crimson silk dress, the fabric clinging to my curves like a second skin. I’d chosen it deliberately, a subtle act of rebellion against the expected demureness. Let him see what he was inviting. The main hall was a sea of expensive suits and designer dresses, the murmur of conversation a low thrum. Then, I saw him. Liam Sterling stood by the grand fireplace, a glass of amber liquid in his hand, his dark eyes scanning the room. When they landed on me, the world seemed to tilt. He was even more imposing in person, all broad shoulders and a jawline that could cut glass. He offered a slow, deliberate smile that promised trouble, and then he began to move towards me.
“Miss Vance,” his voice was a low rumble, deep and resonant, sending a shiver down my spine. “I’m delighted you could make it.” He stopped just inches from me, the scent of sandalwood and something uniquely him, intoxicating. His gaze traced the line of my collarbone, lingering on the swell of my breasts. “You look… even more stunning than I imagined.”
My heart hammered against my ribs. I met his intense gaze, refusing to be intimidated. “Mr. Sterling. I’m intrigued by your… exclusive invitation.” I let my eyes drift down his impeccably tailored suit, then back up to his lips. “What exactly is on the agenda tonight?”
A slow, knowing smile spread across his face. “The agenda, Miss Vance, is to get to know the woman who’s been quietly capturing everyone’s attention. And to make sure she’s aware of her own… considerable power.” He leaned in, his breath warm against my ear. “I’ve been watching you. Your sharp mind, your unwavering focus. It’s… captivating.”
The intimacy of his whisper sent a jolt of heat through me. “And what makes you think I’m interested in being observed, Mr. Sterling?” I challenged, my voice barely a breath.
“Because, Olivia,” he murmured, his hand, large and warm, gently cupping my elbow, “I sense a fire in you that’s been waiting for the right spark. And I, my dear, have plenty of sparks to spare.” He guided me through the throng, his touch a possessive claim, to a secluded alcove overlooking the moonlit gardens. The ambient noise of the party faded, leaving only the sound of our breathing.
“You’re playing a dangerous game, Sterling,” I whispered, my voice thick with anticipation. He turned me to face him, his eyes dark pools reflecting the moonlight. He raised a finger, tracing the curve of my jaw. “Perhaps. But you, Olivia, are the most exquisite prize.”
He lowered his head, his lips brushing against mine, a feather-light caress that promised more. My breath hitched. “You have no idea,” I whispered back, my own lips parting in invitation. His mouth claimed mine then, a kiss that was both demanding and tender, a whirlwind of passion that stole my breath. His hands moved to my waist, pulling me flush against his body, and I could feel the hard, undeniable proof of his desire pressing into me. My own body responded instantly, a molten heat pooling between my legs.
He broke the kiss, his forehead resting against mine, his chest heaving. “Damn, Olivia,” he rasped, his voice rough with emotion. “You’re even more… potent than I imagined.” His thumb stroked my lower lip. “This is just the beginning.”
The night was young, and the Fraternity President’s prey was proving to be a willing and eager participant. The game, as he said, had just begun.
